Student Success Statement
“Success is dependent on effort.”
-          Sophocles, Greek dramatist
I think that what he meant was that if you put effort in something you will be successful. If you do not put effort into something then it won’t lead you to success. You have to put effort in order to be successful. For example if you want to succeed in school you must get good grades and have excellent behavior. You must put effort into your grades and your behavior in order to be successful in school. If you do not put effort in any of this, then you will have bad grades and you will not succeed in school.

How to Take on College Studying Part 2

How to Take on College Studying
Part 2

Choose Where to Study
Where you should study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.
      *            The best places to study have good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space – usually your dorm room, your apartment or the library.
      *            For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test questions, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.
      *            When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.
Improve Your Study Habits
Here are some simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:
      *            Have a routine for where and when you study.
      *            Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.
      *            Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of day.
      *            Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.
      *            Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions.
                                                              *            Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

Summary:
This video was about two girls, Jenna and Ded. These two girls where racing each other in a cross country competition. Which ever high school won the race would go to the state finals. Both of them had been racing a long side, but Ded was always a little bit ahead of Jenna. When they where near the finishing line, Ded broke her hip. When Jenna saw this, she helped her continue running. Jenna push Ded a little so that she could win the race. Jenna got disqualified from the race, but she was okay with it because she did what was right.
Reflection:
I think that what Jenna did was really nice and fair of her. She had the chance to win but she knew that in she left Ded that would have not been fair. She knew that the right thing to do was help her, and so she did. In the end she might have lost the competition but she won something more. Not only did she gain a friend but she got an award from the U.S. Olympic Committee. She did what was right and that led her to greater things.

How to Take on College Studying
Part 1
Develop Good Habits
In college, you’ll need to build on the study skills that you learned in high school. The demands of a college class are probably more rigorous than those you are used to.
You can succeed by knowing what to expect and how to handle it. Think of college as a ful-time job, in which you spend 40 hours a week on class, labs, study groups and doing homework.
Being organized and using your time well are essential. Learn more about time management, and use the guidelines below to develop your study skills.
Decide When to Study
Work out about how many hours you need to study every day. Then make A schedule.
      *            Figure out what blocks of time you have available throughout the day, in the evenings and on weekends.
      *            Consider what time of the day you are most alert- there are morning people and night owls- and try to schedule your studying accordingly.
      *            Think about whether you do better studying for a few hours at a time or sitting down for marathon sessions.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT!!

Perseverance

1.Homework
I think that  in order to do good in school, you have to do your homework. In order to do your homework you need to find a nice quiet place in which you can concentrate and do your homework.
2.Team you might play on
I would like to join the swim team. In order for me to join the team, I first have to learn hoe to swim. I would have to go to swimming classes. Then i would need to get all my paper work ready and try out for the team.
3.Instrument you might play
I would like to play the violin. I need to first find a music class, enroll in it, and practice in order to learn how to play the violin.
4.Tasks at home
In order to accomplish tasks at home I need to plan what I need to do. I could plan out how long I will take to do each task and that way be done with all the task at a certain time.
5.Physical excersice
I need to plan out at what time I could excersice. I don't really excersice, so I need to plan out at what time I would do this and how often. I also need to keep up with the timing and how often I will excersice
6.School work
For school work I need to keep myself on task. Ask question when I have them, and try to finish all my work in class. This will also help me get a good grade in the class.
7.Volunteer group
I need to choose what I would like to volunteer in. Then ask what is needed to join the group.
"A time I Persevered"
A time when I persevered was when I wanted to run a mile in less then 10 minutes. In order to do this I ran everyday. The first time I tried it, I did the mile in 11 minutes. So I continue practicing by the second time I did the mile in 9 minutes 45 seconds. I was proud of myself. This helped me realize that if I keep on trying and never give up, I can achieve anything I want.

“Choosing the right is always the right thing to do.”
Alex Linares

What this quote means is that doing what is right is always the right thing to do. If you have a decision to make always do what is right. Choosing to do what is right will never bring you negative consequences this way you will not have to worry about the consequences. As long as you always do what is right, the decisions you take will only do you good. For example you have to make a decision between going out with your friends and staying home to study. The right thing to do would be to stay home and study. This way you will score good on your test and your parents will let you go out more often. The wrong thing to do is to go out with your friends. This will only bring you negative consequences. You will not score well on your test and your parents will not let you go out as often because of
 this.

10 Time Management Tips for Students Tips 5-10

10 Time Management Tips for Students
Tips 5-10
Tip 5- Review Your Notes Every Day.
Reviewing helps you reinforce what you’ve learned, so you need less time to study before a test. You’ll also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.
Tip 6. Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes the day seem longer and your tasks seem more difficult.
Tip 7. Communicate Your Schedule to Others.
If phone calls or text messages are proving to be a distraction, tell your friends that youa re only available at certain times of the day and to no expect a response at other times.
Tip 8. Become a Taskmaster
Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.
Tip 9. Don’t Waste Time Agonizing.
Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.
Tip 10. Determine Your Priorities.
You can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT!!!

Cleanliness

It is important to be clean because it makes it a lot easier to concentrate. If you have a dirty campus it will bother you, and you wont concentrate. It is important to have your school clean because it makes you look good. Other schools might start to know your school because you keep it clean. Also if a parent comes to visit your school, or someone important, and they see that the school is clean they will think good of you. This will encourage them to come back. If the school is not clean then they will not want to come back and that will make you look bad.
Some things you can do to keep your school clean is pick up after yourself. Not only this but if you see trash near you pick it up. Not only will this make you look good but you will help the janitor with his job. This will make the janitor happy. What you can also do is tell other to clean up after themselves too. You could be a role model for others to follow by picking up your own trash.

“It’s better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
ANON
I think that this quote means that it is better to be alone than to be surrounded by bad people, who do what is wrong. For example, it is better to be at home alone, than with people who drink, or use drugs. Also, if you have to study, and people distract you, the best option is to go study somewhere else. This way you get to study better and people do not bother you. It is better to be alone than with bad company because if the people get in trouble so will you. But since you are alone and you are not doing anything bad you will not get in trouble. If you stick with bad company, they will only bring you down. That is why it is better to be alone.

"Improvement begins with I."
ANON
I think that this quote is trying to say that in order to improve (I) you need to begin to change. In order to improve you must want to improve first. Improving has to come from within you. If someone wants you to improve that wont do any help. Also if you want want to improve you must also want to improve. Not only do you need to want to improve you also need to find ways in which you could improve. You need to see what things you can do in order to improve.

“If you do what’s right you have no need to fear”
ANON
Reflection:
I think that this quote is trying to say that as long as you do right you should not be afraid. When you do something wrong you are afraid that people will find out that you did something. You live in fear. In the other hand if you do what is right you have nothing to worry about. You did what was right, others can know about it, and you will not feel bad, because it is the right thing to do. For example, if you say the truth, then you do not have to worry, about anything because you told the truth. In the other hand if you lie, you will worry. You will be afraid, that people might find out that you have lied. When you do what is right you do not need to be afraid of anything. You did what was right and that should not get you into any trouble. You do not need to be afraid of anything, because you know that you did what was right. If you do what is wrong then you are afraid that people will find out that you did wrong.

Habit 7
Part 1
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Teens should never get to busy living to take time to renew themselves. When teens “sharpen the saw” they are keeping their personal self sharp so that they can better deal with life. It means regularly renewing and strengthening the four key dimensions of life – body, mind, heart, and soul.
    I.      Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
II.      Mind. Think positively. Read. Study. Think. Analyze. Seek to read a good book each month. Then each week. Ask intelligent questions. Observe. Develop your mind through positive “self-talk.”

Loyalty

Loyalty
What is loyalty?
Loyalty is:

  • Faithfulness
  • Devotion
  • Trustworthiness
  • Constancy
  • Reliability
  • Dependability
  • Obedience
  • Living Above the Line
Be Loyal

  • To yourself-your good name
  • To your family
  • To friends
  • To neighbors
  • To other people
  • To your school
  • To your teachers
  • To your community
  • To your state
  • To your country
  • To the United States Flag
  • To those in authority over you
Reflection:
In the video, Sarah had always wanted to hit a home run. When she finally did, she realize that she had not touched the bases. No one from her team help her. Two girls (Mallory and Liz) from the opposing team carried her around the bases, making sure that she touched each base, and help make her dream come true.
I think that this shows good sportsmanship. The girls lost the game, but they won respect, because of what they did.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens Habit 6

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 6
Habit 6: Synergize
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn it doesn’t have to be “your way” or “my way” but rather a better way, and higher way.  Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to from a V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there.  And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.
A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the “sound.” Each band member brings his or her strengths to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than the other, just different.

"Sportsmanship/ Fair / Just"

1. What are some examples of Good Sportsmanship?
  • Shaking hands after a game or before a game.
  • Helping other team members when they are injured.
2. What are the benefits of showing Good Sportsmanship?

  • You feel good because you have helped others.
  • Others respect you.
  • Others look up to you (you become a role model).

1. Why do people demonstrate unsportsmanlike conduct?
  • I think they do this because they see it as there only option. They feel that they should have gotten more than what they got and therefore the other team deserves to be hurt. They think it makes then look tough and therefore the other team will be afraid of them.
Fair/Just
1. What does it mean to play fair, to be fair and just?
  • To play fair means to play by the rules. To not to anything that goes against whatever the rules. To be just means to punish/congratulate a person depending on there actions
2. Why is it so important to  be fair and just?
  • It is important because people deserve to get what they deserve whether its good or bad.
