I think that this quote
means that it is better to be alone than to be surrounded by bad people, who do
what is wrong. For example, it is better to be at home alone, than with people
who drink, or use drugs. Also, if you have to study, and people distract you,
the best option is to go study somewhere else. This way you get to study better
and people do not bother you. It is better to be alone than with bad company
because if the people get in trouble so will you. But since you are alone and
you are not doing anything bad you will not get in trouble. If you stick with
bad company, they will only bring you down. That is why it is better to be
alone.
